Okayama Japan

Okayama (岡山) is the capital city of Okayama Prefecture, and it's the largest city in the Chugoku Region, second only to Hiroshima. The city serves as a crucial transportation center, as it's the meeting point of the Sanyo Shinkansen and the only railway connection to Shikoku. The city's development began as a castle town during the Edo Period (1603-1867), and it grew into a significant regional power. The most renowned attraction in Okayama is the Korakuen Garden, which is considered one of the top three landscape gardens in Japan, alongside Kanazawa's Kenrokuen and Mito's Kairakuen. Okayama Castle is situated just opposite the garden. Okayama is also known as the setting for the popular fairy tale of Momotaro (the Peach Boy), and visitors will find many references to this legendary hero throughout the city.
